One reason this book had such an influence on me is because it allows you to see just how much human spirit can overcome and provide strength in even the toughest of situations. Having read this book I couldn't believe the things that such a young boy was put through, but what made this story more touching was how such a young boy didn't let it affect him. Davids spirit allowed him to survive his mothers cruelty and injustice. This book will give you another outlook on life, it helped me to realize that no matter how bad I think I might have it there is always someone who has it much worse. It opened my eyes and made me see just how truly blessed I am to have grown up the way that I did and allowed me to look back and appreciate those who were there for me.

A child Called "it"
Based on a true story, A child called "it" allows you to step into the shoes of a young boy whose life drastically changes after his mentally unstable and now alcoholic mother takes her anger and depression out on her only target, him. Once living a normal and healthy life David now has to survive under the conditions bestowed upon him, which include living under the stair case, being submerged under freezing water as well as being forced to consume his own throw up. David knew even at such a young age the only person he had was himself and the only way to see another day was to have the willpower continue. Despite the fact that David suffered both mental as well as physical abuse his inner strength managed to shine through and he overcame his torturous childhood.

I agree about the human spirit - it is much stronger than we may think.
